During the summer of 2002, long time member Bruce Rauch suggested that it
might be fun to have some gauge #1 track for those club members who also do
garden railroading.  For the Fall 2002 meet, Bruce Rauch and Llyn  Rice
brought a supply of their own track and Larry Green borrowed track from  the
Vermont Garden Railway Society.  They built a temporary layout in the  middle
of Tanglefoot Loop that included two circles of track for  electrically
powered trains and one loop for live steamers.  All involved had a lot of
fun and the layout was quite popular.

That Fall, the gauge #1 fans asked the Board of Directors for authorization
to build a permanent layout.  The Board decided that, if the gauge #1 fans
could raise enough money to make the initial track purchase, they could
establish a layout which would be deemed a club project and receive funds
from the club treasury.  The group easily raised enough money to buy enough
track to build two loops each  for electric trains and steam powered.  All
the track has been purchased and is now in hand.

During 2003, other major projects such as erecting the Piaseki Bridge and
starting the club house expansion building project diverted efforts away
from the gauge #1 layout.  Our goal is to get the  initial loops in place
during the summer of 2004 and establish a permanent  presence in the
Tanglefoot Loop.
